YONKERS MAN: Indicted On Hate Crime Charges For Attack On Filipino Senior
A Westchester County grand jury has indicted a Yonkers man on a charge of attempted murder as a hate crime for allegedly attacking a 67-year-old Asian woman.
Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah said Tammel Esco was charged with punching the woman more than 100 times, repeatedly stomping on her upper body, and spitting on her.
The grand jury also indicted him on charges of attempted murder, four counts of assault as a hate crime, and assault, all as violent felonies.
Esco is being held in the Westchester County Jail without bail.
It is alleged that on March 11, minutes after 6 p.m., Esco approached the woman from behind as she entered the vestibule of her apartment building on Riverside Avenue in Yonkers.
He then punched her in the head, knocking her to the ground and continued to punch her.
The Asian victim was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where she was treated for bleeding on the brain, several facial fractures, and bruising and lacerations to her head and face.
The Yonkers Police Department arrested Esco shortly after the incident.
