"The Governor has once again employed a tactic similar to that used for implementing the failed Bail Reform, sneaking a provision into the budget that forces legislators to support another problematic bill in order to pass the state's budget.
By revoking home rule this proposal will:
- Grant amnesty to all illegal apartments- Provide property tax exemptions to homeowners with Accessory Dwelling Units (which, according to several Yonkers and Westchester executives, will create a budget shortfall)- Mandate 50 housing units per acre of transit-oriented development,- Require a 3% increase in housing units every few years- Destroy single family zoning
Governor Hochul has created an "existential threat" to our communities by threatening to eliminate single-family zoning laws, as stated by urban planning consultant and Democratic candidate for New York State Assembly in Queens, Paul Graziano, who spoke at the Armor Villa Homeowners Association event hosted by their President Steve Wagner.
The bipartisan opposition to Governor Hochul's unconstitutional housing mandates makes it clear that New Yorkers are supportive of maintaining the integrity of their neighborhoods and are prepared to fight against this flawed proposal."
