YONKERS POLICE DEPARTMENT: Prior to joining the YPD, Officer Chimenti attended the NYPD Police Academy in 2021

While at an NYPD academy Blood Drive, Officer Chimenti signed up to be a bone marrow donor, thinking it would be great to help someone in need should the opportunity present itself in the future.

That call from "Be The Match," an organization operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), came sooner rather than later.

This past Summer, PO Chimenti got an unexpected call that he was a match for a person who needed a donation.

Despite not knowing this person, without hesitation, he agreed to a Peripheral Blood Stem Cell (PBSC) donation.

He recently successfully completed this process, which only took a few weeks from start to finish, and is now back to work protecting the community he loves to serve.

PO Chimenti says that although he does not know the recipient, he was glad to help however he could.

He added that he hopes to meet them one day. When he was asked if he would do it again, he said, "In a heartbeat."
